Sacramento SEO Pro says California taxes are going up

Sacramento SEO Pro warns of higher California taxes

Sacramento SEO Pro says California taxes are going up. Prepare nowI received an e-mail RE: California State sales taxes. Your Sacramento SEO Pro is sad to report that California state sales taxes are going up 0.25% on January 1, 2013 because voters approved Proposition 30. I was outvoted.

This is a serious blow to small business. Every tax increase takes money from consumers and gives it to governments. Businesses and consumers have less money. They become less able to buy goods for their businesses and homes.

What you need to know

  • If you are planning to make any big purchases, do so before January 1.
  • If you collect California State sales taxes, like I do, you need to collect the higher rate starting on January 1.
  • Buying from Amazon.com won’t help. Amazon.com now collects California state sales taxes.

I am copying some verbiage from the California State Board of Equilization here. Sorry for the bad news.

Sales and Use Tax Rate Will Increase on January 1, 2013

Due to voter approval of Proposition 30, the statewide sales and use tax rate will increase one quarter of one percent (0.25%) on January 1, 2013. The higher tax rate will apply for four years — January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2016.
For more information on this increase, please visit our tax rate increase webpage. For a listing of tax rates, please visit our California City & County Sales & Use Tax Rates webpage.

In addition to the statewide sales and use tax rate increase, voters in some cities and counties approved a number of new or increased district taxes that will go into effect April 1, 2013. These new or increased district taxes will be sent to taxpayers in a separate notice.
